My Library
My favorite room in the house. The afternoon sun fills it with a diffused, mellow light.
The other side of the room.
The cozy armchairs where I spend my hours.
My laptop, notebook, pens, coaster, and current read.
Painting by famous Pakistani artist, Mansoor Rahi.
A painting of me by artist Kiran Zaidi
Mughal elephant bookends.
Replica of the Phaistos Disk. I bought this in Greece. This Minoan artifact and its undecipherable code remain a puzzle for archaeologists to this date.
This magnifying glass has so much character. Its arms are clips that can hold post-its and notes. It always reminds me of Edward Scissorhands.
I bought this in Venice, Italy. Made from Murano glass (also called Venetian glass), this delicate, prancing horse catches the light and glows in beautiful ways.
A trip souveneir. I got this traditional Moroccan inkwell from Fez, Morocco. It is ceramic and perfect for the quills I like to collect.
The poem “Ramz” by Jaun Elia, calligraphy by Amir Jafri.
I got this sun amulet in the Witches’ Market (Mercado de las Brujas) in La Paz, Bolivia. Underneath is a news item of my reading for the South Asia Free Media Association.
A hand-knotted Berber rug I got in Marrakech, Morocco. Its colors brighten up the library.
